I get this question very often and I feel like I need to come in here and talk a little about birthday sessions for little ones. If you are reading this, you may or may not know that I'm a portrait photographer. Plenty of times I have tried to narrow down my "niche" but unfortunately, I just cannot find a certain type of photography that I love more than the other. I do get requests for maternity portraits more than anything but I do a little of everything. There's so many types of portrait photography and this is where the artist shines. My style is my own. I can't recreate someone else's style because it doesn't come from the heart. I do what feels good to me and what I think is great in my eye, mind and what feels good in my soul. I think it's super exciting celebrating birthdays. Each birthday is unique to everyone, just like the child is. I used to have so many props that would bring with me to each session but unfortunately, I lost most of my stuff due to hurricane Harvey. Now, I ask all my parents to bring the props that they would love to incorporate in their child's portraits. Balloons are a big thing, props that represent their "themed birthday parties" and things like that add to the uniqueness of each session. I found that I love doing this vs. having a themed backdrop etc. Not saying that those portraits are not nice or beautiful because they are. This is just how I go about doing our birthday sessions. When my boys were little, I worked at Sears Portrait Studio in Pasadena mall. I did the whole themed sessions back then and I still cherish those memories. Still, even back then.. I would bring my own props to incorporate in the portrait. That's just something that I believe makes a portrait more personable. Here are some images of little Leo when he turned a year old. He's so adorable!! I've known Leo's parents for a many years and it was such a huge honor doing his first birthday portraits.
Enjoy!
